Nollywood actress Halima Abubakar has reached out for help, sharing her struggles in a heartfelt video on Instagram.
On February 18, she spoke candidly about her ongoing battle with health issues, expressing her exhaustion and desperation. Despite her efforts to appear strong, she revealed that she has been suffering and feeling unwell.
Halima mentioned that she spent a year in her village, while dealing with her illness and dismissed accusations that she is lying about her condition.
Once a wealthy actress, Halima stated that she has sold her three cars and other possessions to make ends meet, hoping for empathy from her peers.
“People are confused about what is going on. I am not feeling well, and I have been pretending to be strong and okay,” she said.
“This is the real me; when you see me posting pictures with filters, that’s not me—it’s a filter on TikTok. Some of you might be laughing, but what’s funny about this? Why would I lie? Lie about what? About being sick?”
She strongly refuted claims that she is “acting” or falsely claiming to be unwell. “How could somebody say I’m lying about my sickness? I go to a Turkish hospital, which is the biggest in Nigeria, but I don’t know what’s wrong with me.”
Halima highlighted the isolation she feels, as many in Hollywood have distanced themselves from her since her health began to decline.
“You sacked me from Nollywood, but what’s all this betrayal about? It’s a mad person who lies about being sick. They said I was never sick and that I was lying. I was in the village for over a year.”

“I moved here recently, because of the hospital where I go for check-ups. I’m now done with check-ups; there’s nothing wrong medically now. What am I thinking? My own best friend said I am lying to the public, and we do not even live in the same place. You didn’t come to check on me even once,” she stated.
Halima lamented her absence from the film industry, saying that she hasn’t acted in over six years and has resorted to begging for financial assistance to afford her medication.
In her emotional plea, she explained that she has urgent medical needs, including multiple MRIs and concerns about her high blood pressure.
“It’s been over six years since I appeared in a movie. What else do you want from me? Do you want me to die or kill myself? I am heartbroken. Can’t you see how I look? I have done MRI three times at a Turkish hospital,” she added.
She is now calling on Nigerians to urge the governor and senator from her home state of Kogi, Natasha Akpoti to provide her with support during this challenging time.
