The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has confirmed an armed attack on Grow Homes Estate, situated in the Kuchibuyi-Chikakore axis of Kubwa in Bwari Area Council, in the early hours of Monday.
The incident, which has sent shockwaves through the local community, resulted in the abduction of a resident identified as Deacon Joshua.
According to eyewitnesses, the gunmen stormed the estate between 12:00 am and 1:30 am, shooting sporadically and creating panic among residents in what is usually a quiet neighborhood.
During the attack, they reportedly held residents hostage for over an hour.
Sources revealed that two individuals were initially abducted, including a woman who was later released under unclear circumstances.
“The armed men came in shooting sporadically, and they took Deacon Joshua and another woman, but she was freed shortly after,” a resident recounted.
Criticism has also trailed the response time of security agencies, with residents alleging that the Byazhin Police Division only arrived at the scene after the gunmen had fled.
“The police only came around after the gunmen had left. There was no immediate response despite the panic calls from residents,” another source said.
In an official statement, the FCT Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, confirmed the attack and stated that one of the kidnapped victims, identified as Chinyere Joe, was rescued following a shoot-out with the assailants.

“The FCT Police Command, on Monday, 26th May, 2025, at about 01:00 am received a distress call from officers stationed near Grow Homes Estate, reporting an armed attack and requesting reinforcement,” the statement read.
She further explained that the attackers breached the estate through a rear perimeter fence and abducted two residents.
According to her, police officers engaged the gunmen in a 40-minute gun battle, leading to the rescue of one victim.
“The command’s anti-kidnapping unit, in collaboration with the Nigerian Army and other security operatives, has launched a manhunt to track down the fleeing suspects and ensure the safe return of the remaining abducted victim,” Adeh said.
“The rescued victim is currently receiving medical care and counselling, while efforts continue to locate and rescue the victim.
The police have urged Abuja residents to remain vigilant and promptly report any suspicious activities or emergencies.
