The need for security agencies operating in the southern parts of Taraba state to increase their intelligence gatherings has become a source of concern to the youths of the communities.

The suggestion, if religiously implemented, they believed would not only lead to the arrest of the perpetrators of the ongoing killings in the areas but will as well expose the sponsors of the unrest.

The appeal which came on Monday during a world press conference which took place in Jalingo, the state capital, was observed to have been necessitated by the ongoing attacks, killings, maiming and destruction of valuables.

The youths who converged under the auspices of Concerned Kuteb Youths in Diaspora also expressed dismay over the alleged inability of the state government to wade in.

The state government, under the “watch of Governor Darius Dickson Ishaku” as unanimously agreed by them “has remained silent and turned a deaf ear to the reports that have been written on the continuous killing of the Kuteb people in southern Taraba.”

The youths who appeared to be gradually losing confidence in the government at the state level, also called on President Muhammadu Buhari, to wade in by halting the militias from “consuming our people.”

In their collective resolve, they believed that “it has become necessary to draw the attention of the federal government under the watch of President Mohammadu Buhari and the world to the ongoing ethnic cleansing of the Kuteb people of Takum and Ussa local government Areas as well as Yangtu Special Development Area of southern Taraba by bandits and negligence of the state government in protecting lives and properties of Southern Taraba indigenes.”

Alleging that “over 100 of our people have been killed, our communities razed down by these bandits” over “120,000 of our people” as also claimed by them, have been displaced.

They said, “we are baffled and astonished that a government whose primary responsibility is to protect lives and property of her people, find it difficult to condemn the wanton killings of unarmed and defenceless people but chooses to use the media as its whipping boy to distract attention from the large scale atrocities being committed by these invaders.”
