A political pressure group, Concerned Rivers People (CRP) has accused Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, of allegedly engaging social media influencers to tarnish the image of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike.
The allegation was contained in a statement issued on Thursday and signed by the group’s Director of Communication, Robinson Uke.
Uke said the use of bloggers by public officials to shape political narratives has become widespread in Nigeria, claiming that Gov. Fubara had deliberately sponsored online attacks against Wike in an attempt to discredit him before President Bola Tinubu.
He alleged that some bloggers rejected what he described as “mouth-watering offers,” insisting that the FCT minister had not attacked the Rivers State governor either directly or indirectly.
Uke stated that Wike’s position on the ongoing political disagreement in Rivers State was limited to insisting that agreements reached should be honoured.

“All the FCT minister has said is that an agreement is an agreement and that Governor Fubara should respect it. This he has not done,” the statement said.
The group further accused the governor of spending Rivers State taxpayers’ funds on social media influencers across the country without legislative approval.
CRP affirmed that, such actions raise serious ethical concerns and undermine transparency and accountability in governance.
The group also referenced what it described as federal government concerns over sponsored online content, noting that authorities have demanded approvals for paid posts due to fears of misinformation and manipulation.
CRP commended bloggers who, according to the group, refused to be used for political purposes, while issuing a strong warning to Governor Fubara over what it called political betrayal.
“As the African proverb says, a child who refuses to allow his mother to sleep will not sleep either,” the group stated.
