GreenSprings Digital University has formally welcomed its pioneer cohort of students at its maiden matriculation ceremony, marking a significant step in its mission to redefine higher education in Cameroon through technology-driven and industry-focused learning.
The ceremony, held at the university’s campus in Yaounde, brought together academic leaders, government officials, parents and invited guests who gathered to witness the formal induction of the new students into the institution’s academic community.
Dressed in academic gowns, the freshmen took the matriculation oath, pledging to uphold the values and standards of the university. The event featured a formal academic procession, goodwill messages and an address by members of the university’s governing council, who outlined the vision that underpins the establishment of GreenSprings Digital University.
GreenSprings Digital University, also known as GSDU, positions itself as an innovative institution designed to equip students with practical skills and digital competencies required in today’s fast-changing global economy. In his address, the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Charles Boyomo Assala described GSDU as a university built for the future, with programmes structured around technology, entrepreneurship and leadership development. He noted that the institution combines classroom instruction with hands-on projects, mentorship and exposure to global best practices.
According to the university management, students will benefit from paid internship placements, international exchange opportunities and access to a dedicated venture capital studio that supports student-led startups and innovation projects.
University authorities emphasised that the core philosophy of GSDU centres on learning that translates into measurable impact. Courses are designed to integrate digital tools, critical thinking and problem-solving skills, ensuring that graduates are prepared not only for employment but also for enterprise.
Parents and guardians at the ceremony expressed optimism about the university’s direction, citing its emphasis on leadership and entrepreneurship as timely for Cameroon’s growing youth population.
One parent described the matriculation as a proud moment, noting that the institution’s promise of combining modern technology with practical training gives students a competitive advantage in both local and international markets.
GreenSprings Digital University also reaffirmed its commitment to contributing to Cameroon’s development agenda by nurturing graduates capable of driving innovation across sectors. The institution said it aims to collaborate with industry partners, government agencies and international organisations to expand opportunities for students.
With its maiden matriculation now concluded, the university begins its academic session with a clear focus on producing digitally skilled, ethically grounded and globally competitive graduates.
As the new students embark on their academic journey, the message from the institution remains consistent: education must move beyond theory and empower learners to evolve, adapt and lead with purpose in an increasingly digital world.
