The Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF) has failed to reach a consensus on the controversial tax reform bills initiated by President Bola Tinubu, after meeting in Abuja, on Wednesday night.
Governors who attended the meeting refused talking to journalists at the end of the meeting which lasted for one hour, prompting speculations that the meeting ended in a deadlock.
Only 17 governors were present at Wednesday’s night meeting, with 15 governors from the All Progressives Congress (APC). The other two governors present were Gov. Charles Soludo and Abia State’s Alex Otti, from the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) and Labour Party (LP), respectively.

For weeks, governors have expressed divergent views on Tinubu’s tax reform measures before the National Assembly for consideration and passage.
The Tinubu administration’s new tax bills have sparked widespread criticism and strong opposition from many, including the 19 northern governors that have flatly rejected the provisions of the bills.
