The stage is set for the much-anticipated Governors Excellence Award ceremony, scheduled to take place on August 19, 2025, in Paris, France.
The prestigious event will celebrate visionary leadership, exceptional governance, and impactful development initiatives by governors across Africa, recognizing their commitment to driving sustainable socio-economic transformation in their respective regions.
Among the distinguished honorees are outstanding governors from Kenya and Egypt, whose exemplary performance and people-centered policies have garnered continental and global acclaim.
Representing Egypt, the following governors will be honoured, Abdel Mutalib Amara, Governor of Kafr El Sheikh, Amr Hanafi, Governor of the Red Sea, Major General Gamal Nour El-Din, Governor of Asyut, and Major General Khaled Fouda, Governor of South Sinai.
From Kenya, the ceremony will celebrate the achievements of: Prof. Hillary Barchok, Governor of Bomet County, George Natembeya, Governor of Trans Nzoia County, Mohamed Khalif, Governor of Mandera County and Jeremiah Lomorukai, Governor of Turkana County .

Also, Nigerian Governors, Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta Statse, Babagana Zulum of Borno State, Uba Sani of Kaduna State, Hope Uzodinma of Imo State, Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State and Abba Yusuf of Kano State are listed in the international event.
The Governors Excellence Award is designed to spotlight transformative projects in healthcare, infrastructure, education, economic empowerment, and inclusive governance.
This year’s edition will feature keynote addresses from global policy leaders, panel discussions on sub-national governance innovation, and networking sessions to foster intergovernmental collaboration.
Speaking on the significance of the award, Idahosa Osamahze, Vice Chairman of the Selection Committee, said that effective governance at the sub-national level is critical to Africa’s development trajectory.
“These governors exemplify what leadership with vision, integrity, and purpose can achieve. Their work is changing lives, fostering prosperity, and inspiring a new generation of public servants across Africa,” said the awards secretariat.
The Paris ceremony is expected to attract high-profile dignitaries, development partners, diplomats, and stakeholders from across Africa and Europe.
The Governors Excellence Award is an initiative aimed at promoting excellence in public service, encouraging innovation in governance, and fostering best practices in leadership for Africa’s socio-economic advancement.
