Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya of Gombe State has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to finding a sustainable, long-term solution to the ongoing strike at Gombe State University (GSU). The governor has called on the university unions to cooperate with the government as they work to address the issues at hand and bring an end to the industrial action.

Speaking through his deputy, Manassah Daniel Jatau, who also serves as Chairman of the negotiation team, Governor Yahaya emphasized his administration’s dedication to improving the working conditions at GSU, despite the financial challenges facing the state. The governor made these remarks during a high-level meeting on Tuesday, which aimed to resolve the current crisis.

“We fully understand the importance of your demands and are committed to engaging in meaningful discussions that will benefit both the staff and the university,” Yahaya stated. “Our focus is not only on resolving the immediate concerns but on creating long-term stability for Gombe State University.”

The governor’s team, led by Deputy Governor Jatau, includes key officials such as the Secretary to the State Government, the Attorney-General, the Commissioner for Higher Education, and other top government executives. Also on the committee are the Executive Chairperson of the Gombe State Internal Revenue Service, the State Auditor-General, and the Accountant-General, who have been tasked with securing funding and ensuring the university’s future development.

The staff of Gombe State University has been on strike, demanding improved working conditions and better resources. The industrial action has brought academic activities to a halt, prompting the state government to intervene.

Governor Yahaya appealed to the unions and stakeholders to support the government’s efforts in securing additional funding for the institution. His administration is working tirelessly to ensure that the university can meet the needs of its staff and students while promoting the long-term growth and stability of GSU.
