In a significant move to enhance Taraba State’s healthcare sector, Governor Agbu Kefas has appointed Dr. Danjuma Garba as the new Executive Secretary of the Taraba State Health Service Management Board.
The appointment, announced on Tuesday, is expected to bring critical reforms to healthcare administration in the state. Governor Kefas emphasized that Dr. Garba’s leadership aligns with his administration’s goal of overhauling the healthcare system and improving service delivery.
Health officials at the board have welcomed the decision, expressing optimism about the impact of Dr. Garba’s leadership. “He has demonstrated exceptional expertise in the health sector, and we believe his experience will enhance hospital management, service delivery, and healthcare access for Taraba residents,” a staff member told our correspondent.
Dr. Garba, a seasoned public health expert, previously served as the Executive Director of the Taraba AIDS Control Agency (TACA). During his tenure, he spearheaded successful initiatives to combat HIV/AIDS, raise public awareness, and expand treatment accessibility across the state. His extensive experience in healthcare policy and management positions him as a strong candidate for the role.
As Executive Secretary, Dr. Garba will be responsible for overseeing the administration of public hospitals, improving infrastructure, ensuring a steady supply of medical resources, addressing staffing shortages, and implementing policies aimed at strengthening healthcare services.

A senior doctor at Jalingo Specialist Hospital, speaking anonymously, noted, “Dr. Garba’s track record in managing health programs is commendable. We anticipate significant improvements in hospital operations under his leadership.”
Similarly, a community health advocate described the decision as a progressive step. “We need a leader who understands the realities of the healthcare system. Dr. Garba has proven his competence in his previous role, and we trust that he will make a meaningful impact in this new position,” she said.
