Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has called on Oriental Energy Resources Limited to strengthen its commitment to local content participation and ensure that indigenes of Akwa Ibom, especially those from host communities, benefit significantly from the company’s operations in the state.
Governor Eno made the call on Saturday, November 8, during the Sail Away Ceremony of the EMEM Floating Production Storage and Offloading (FPSO) vessel held in Dubai. He described the event as a landmark achievement in Nigeria’s oil and gas sector and a testament to Akwa Ibom’s strategic role as a major oil producing state.
The governor explained that the EMEM FPSO, owned by Oriental Energy, will soon be deployed to Petroleum Mining Lease (PML) 15 in Akwa Ibom, where it will manage crude oil production, processing, and offloading operations from the Okwok Field in Mbo Local Government Area.
Highlighting the symbolic meaning of the vessel’s name, “Emem” which means “peace” Governor Eno said it truely reflects Akwa Ibom’s development philosophy built on peace, hospitality, and sustainable progress.
While reaffirming his administration’s readiness to partner with Oriental Energy, the governor urged the company to align its operations with the Nigerian Content Act and establish a functional office in Uyo to coordinate activities within the state.
He also encouraged the company to employ qualified Akwa Ibom professionals in both management and technical roles, noting that the state boasts a large pool of experienced manpower in the oil and gas industry. He emphasized that host communities, particularly Effiat and Mbo, must directly benefit from jobs, contracts, and corporate social responsibility projects.
