The Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Niger Delta Basin Development Authority, Prince Ebitimi Amgbare, has attributed Bayelsa State’s recent socio-economic and infrastructural growth to Governor Douye Diri’s sustained peacebuilding efforts.
Speaking with journalists in Abuja, Prince Amgbare said the stability achieved under Governor Diri has created the secure environment required for investment, economic expansion and long-term development in Bayelsa State. He commended the governor’s leadership style, describing it as empathetic and focused on unity across political lines, while congratulating him on his sixth anniversary in office.
According to the NDBDA boss, Bayelsa’s progress is visible in key infrastructure projects currently underway. He cited the construction of a 25,000-seater modern stadium, a nine-storey secretariat complex and the acquisition of a 60 megawatt gas turbine aimed at improving electricity supply across the state. These projects, he noted, reflect a deliberate strategy to strengthen the foundations of economic growth.
Prince Amgbare also highlighted reforms in education, particularly the reintroduction of technical colleges and the establishment of free boarding schools across local government areas. He said twelve model schools equipped with modern facilities are preparing young people for entrepreneurship, innovation and skills development, positioning them for future opportunities.
Beyond infrastructure and education, he pointed to developments in agriculture, health, transportation, sports, culture and tourism, the blue economy and human capital advancement. He stressed that peace has remained the driving force behind these gains.
“Without peaceful coexistence, there can be no meaningful development,” he said, noting that improved road networks across Bayelsa have enhanced connectivity and boosted economic activity. A stable climate, he added, makes the state more attractive to local and foreign investors, encouraging job creation and business expansion.

Prince Amgbare maintained that peacebuilding reduces the social and economic costs associated with conflict and allows resources to be redirected toward public projects. He said the Diri administration’s emphasis on dialogue, reconciliation and inclusive governance has strengthened trust among communities and fostered cooperation between government, civil society and the private sector.
He concluded that Governor Douye Diri’s peacebuilding strategy has laid the groundwork for sustainable growth in Bayelsa State and renewed hope among residents, as the administration pushes to complete its ongoing legacy projects.
