Benue State Governor, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia, has dissolved the entire State Executive Council and appointed a new Chief of Staff. The announcement came shortly after the conclusion of the 12th Executive Council meeting for the year 2025.

Governor Alia named Barr. Moses Atagher as the new Chief of Staff, replacing the outgoing official in what is seen as a strategic political decision. Atagher, a seasoned legal practitioner and respected administrator, previously served as a two-term Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice in Benue State. He also held the position of acting Managing Director at the Federal Mortgage Bank, adding financial sector expertise to his extensive resume. His appointment takes immediate effect.

While the entire executive council was dissolved, Atagher’s appointment stood out as the only fresh inclusion so far. The Governor, in a calm but firm tone, expressed deep appreciation to the outgoing Commissioners for their contributions to the state over the past two years. He encouraged those not returning to remain active within the political system and continue supporting the party’s vision, saying their exit paves the way for new talents and fresh perspectives in governance.

The dissolution affects only the Commissioners, with other top aides and special advisers expected to retain their positions, at least for now.

In a show of unity and goodwill, Barr. Bemsen Mnyim spoke on behalf of the outgoing Commissioners, thanking the Governor for the opportunity to serve. “Every role we take on is a learning experience,” Mnyim noted. “We have gained valuable insights while working with you and remain grateful.”

Governor Alia has directed all former Commissioners to hand over their responsibilities to the Permanent Secretaries of their respective ministries without delay. Political analysts suggest the move signals a midterm recalibration aimed at energizing the administration ahead of upcoming political milestones.

With a new Chief of Staff now in place, all eyes are on Governor Alia as he prepares to unveil a restructured cabinet that aligns with his administration’s goals for a more effective and inclusive governance model in Benue State.
