Borno State Governor, Babagana Zulum, has released 30 percent of the project funds to contractors handling the construction of 600 housing units across six local government areas in the state.

The initiative, which was flagged off in March, is part of the state government’s efforts to bridge the housing deficit faced by teachers.

The housing scheme targets five local government areas of Biu, Gubio, Hawul, Askira Uba, and Magumeri, while also including additional development projects at Kashim Ibrahim University Teaching Hospital and the Rumirgo Livestock Improvement and Settlement.

The disbursement of the funds follows the inauguration of a project oversight committee through the office of the secretary to the state government.

The committee is tasked with monitoring the construction of the housing estates and other key infrastructure projects across the state.

Speaking during the inauguration, Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Mallam Bukar Tijjani, emphasised that members of the committee were selected based on experience and merit.

The committee is chaired by the Commissioner for Local Government and Emirate Affairs, Sugun Mai Mele, with the Commissioner for Works and Housing, Mustapha Gubio, serving as co-chairman.

Alhaji Mustapha Kori will serve as the committee’s secretary.

Mele warned contractors handling the various projects to adhere strictly to timelines and quality standards, stressing that the committee will ensure thorough monitoring to guarantee compliance and timely delivery of all the projects.
