Borno State Governor, Babagana Zulum, on Tuesday inaugurated two newly constructed secondary schools in Fikiyel and Balbaya communities of Bayo Local government Area and flagged off the construction of a High Islamic college in Fikiyel.
Speaking at the ceremony, Gov. Zulum said the Islamic college was conceived to integrate out-of-school children, particularly Almajirai, into a formal and modern education system.
He explained that the institution would operate a hybrid curriculum under the National Board for Arabic and Islamic Studies (NBAIS), blending Islamic education with science, technology, and the humanities.
The governor said the initiative is aimed at reforming the non-formal Sangaya system by introducing intensive literacy, numeracy, digital literacy, and vocational training to equip learners with relevant life skills.
“It is our sincere hope that the people of Fikiyel will benefit from this school because we are targeting the enrolment of out-of-school children so they can acquire Arabic education alongside modern skills that will prepare them for the future,” Gov. Zulum said.
