Governor Babagana Umara Zulum of Borno State, has officially transferred the newly remodelled Federal College of Education, Gwoza to the Federal Ministry of Education.
The college formerly known as Teachers College, Gwoza, was owned by the Borno State Government before being transformed into a modern educational institution.
The upgraded facility features over 100 refurbished classrooms, state-of-the-art laboratories, administrative offices, and residential quarters for senior staff.
The governor also announced a N200 million take-off grant to support the institution’s smooth operation.
Reiterating his commitment to education, Gov. Zulum emphasized the importance of ensuring that the college produces high-quality graduates.
“Our focus is on the quality of education and the skill sets our students acquire. Subjects like English, mathematics, sciences and vocational courses that can generate wealth and drive development should be prioritized.”
He also urged the college to avoid immediately establishing courses in Kanuri or Hausa, noting that such knowledge can be acquired informally.
The governor, also called for a focus on core subjects that would empower students to contribute meaningfully to society.
Commending the federal government for establishing the college in Borno State, Gov. Zulum highlighted the institution’s potential to bridge the educational gap in the state.
He noted that Borno State was previously the only state without a federal college of education.
The representative of the Federal Ministry of Education, Nasir Gwarzo, who is a permanent secretary, in the ministry, praised the governor’s commitment to education.
“The donation of a fully remodelled facility and the N200 million take-off fund underscores your commitment to advancing education in this region,” Gwarzo said.
