Borno State Governor, Babagana Zulum, has announced a donation of N300 million to support families of soldiers who lost their lives in the fight against Boko Haram insurgents.
The governor made the pledge during the 2025 Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF) ‘Operation Desert Sanity 2’ medal parade, held in N’Djamena, Chad.
Gov. Zulum explained that the funds will be allocated through the “Tribute to Our Troops Charity Foundation,” a platform established to honor fallen heroes, celebrate active servicemen and women, and assist their families.
He said that “the chief of defence staff has created a foundation to address the welfare of families of deceased soldiers and those wounded in action.

“This initiative is the least we can do to honor their sacrifices. They have paid the ultimate price to protect Nigeria’s territorial integrity, and we remain committed to supporting them.”
The governor emphasized the state’s leading role in combating insurgency and pledged his administration’s unwavering support for the foundation, adding that “if any state in Nigeria should lead in supporting this cause, it is Borno.”
While acknowledging the progress made in reducing insurgency in the North East, Gov. Zulum urged the military to intensify efforts to eradicate the remaining Boko Haram elements in the Lake Chad region.
The MNJTF medal parade initiated in 2017, recognizes troops for their dedication and sacrifices in fighting insurgency across the Lake Chad Basin.
Gov. Zulum also expressed gratitude to President Bola Tinubu for his leadership in strengthening national security.
“The president as commander-in-chief has provided the necessary direction and motivation to ensure lasting peace in Nigeria,” he said.
