Borno State Governor, Babagana Zulum, has donated N100 million to the Nigerian Army University, Biu (NAUB), as part of efforts to support research and infrastructural development at the institution.
The governor donated the amount while hosting the university’s Vice Chancellor, Prof. Lawan Buratai, along with other principal officers, at the Government House in Maiduguri.
Gov. Zulum praised the university’s progress and the move to establish a legislative framework for its long-term sustainability.
He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to strengthening its partnership with the institution.
“Previously, the Borno State government supported the university, and now we are providing an additional N100 million.
“We will work closely with you to strengthen this partnership for the institution’s growth and development,” the governor said.
In a further show of support, Gov. Zulum announced plans to offer scholarships to indigent students from the 27 local government areas of Borno State to study at the university.
“The commissioner for education has been directed to explore the feasibility of sponsoring students from each of the 27 local government areas, subject to the university’s carrying capacity,” he said.

He also pledged backing for the proposed establishment of a college of medical sciences at the university to address the shortage of doctors and healthcare professionals in the state.
Highlighting the importance of aligning academic output with local needs, Gov. Zulum called for greater collaboration between the state government and the three federal universities in the state.
“The state government will collaborate with these institutions to prioritise programmes based on needs assessments, ensuring maximum benefit for our people,” he added.
Responding, Prof. Buratai expressed appreciation for the governor’s continuous support and requested additional state-sponsored admissions in engineering and related disciplines to boost enrolment and technical capacity.
In a related development, Gov. Zulum reiterated his administration’s resolve to ensure the fair distribution of projects across all parts of the state.
He made this commitment while receiving members of the Biu Forum at the Government House, Maiduguri, where he emphasized that investments in education, healthcare, infrastructure, and security are based on long-term impact, not political convenience.
“We are investing heavily in these areas not to please anyone, but because posterity will judge our administration positively,” Gov. Zulum said.
National Chairman of the forum, Alhaji Mustapha Mohammed, lauded the governor’s efforts, noting that over 90 development projects have been executed in the Biu Emirate alone.
