Borno State Governor, Babagana Zulum, has donated N100 million to support the families of soldiers killed in action and those wounded in the ongoing battle against insurgency in the North East.
The donation was announced during an Eid El-Kabir luncheon held on Saturday at the Maimalari Barracks in Maiduguri, the state capital.
The event was jointly hosted by the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Olufemi Oluyede, and the Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Hassan Abubakar.
Gov. Zulum presented a cheque for the amount to Maj. Gen. Abdussalam Abubakar, Theatre Commander of ‘Operation Hadin Kai’.
According to the governor, each injured soldier will receive N500,000, while the remaining funds will be allocated to the families of soldiers who lost their lives in the line of duty.
The cheque presentation was witnessed by top military brass, including the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Olufemi Oluyede; Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Hassan Abubakar; and the Force Commander of the Multi-National Joint Task Force (MNJTF), Maj. Gen. Godwin Mutkut.

Gov. Zulum praised the courage and sacrifice of the soldiers, highlighting the state’s unwavering support for the military.
“Your commitment on the frontlines, often under extreme conditions and far from your families, is not lost on us,” he said.
“We remain eternally grateful for your service and will never take your sacrifices for granted.”
Reaffirming his administration’s loyalty to the armed forces, Gov. Zulum pledged continued cooperation in the fight against insurgency and in the efforts to rebuild and restore peace across the state.
