In a decisive political move ahead of the 2026 general elections, Governor Babagana Zulum has approved the immediate dissolution of the Borno State Executive Council, effectively bringing an end to the tenure of all serving commissioners in Borno State.
The development, announced in an official statement, is widely seen as part of strategic preparations for the upcoming electoral cycle.
According to the governor, the dissolution is aimed at creating a level playing field for members of the council who may be considering participation in elective contests.
As part of the transition process, Gov. Zulum has directed all affected commissioners to hand over the affairs of their respective ministries to permanent secretaries no later than Friday, April 3, 2026.
The directive ensures continuity in governance and administrative stability across the state’s ministries.

In the statement issued by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Bukar Tijani, the governor expressed deep appreciation to the outgoing council members.
He commended their dedication, commitment, and significant contributions to the growth and development of the state, particularly in a period marked by ongoing recovery and rebuilding efforts.
Political observers noted that the move may trigger a wave of declarations from former commissioners seeking party nominations, potentially reshaping the political landscape in Borno State ahead of the polls.
While no immediate replacements have been announced, governance activities are expected to continue uninterrupted under the supervision of the permanent secretaries until further directives are issued.
