Governor Babagana Zulum of Borno State, has disbursed ₦1billion grant to support Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in Biu and Hawul Local Government Areas of the state.
The initiative which benefits 9, 403 entrepreneurs, and vulnerable families, according to the governor, is aimed at boosting local businesses, stimulating the economy, and reducing poverty.
During the distribution in Maiduguri, ₦560.3 million was allocated to 5, 603 entrepreneurs in Biu, and another local government council, with each beneficiary receiving ₦100,000.
Additionally, ₦439.7 million was shared among 1, 800 youth, and vulnerable families in Biu, and 2, 000 entrepreneurs in Hawul.
Gov. Zulum reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to empowering small businesses, and youth in the state, stating that “our focus on SMEs is to drive economic growth, create jobs, and ensure that our youths are meaningfully engaged.”
He urged the beneficiaries to utilize the funds wisely, and fulfill their entrepreneurial goals.
As part of his continued efforts to support local communities, Gov. Zulum also directed the Borno State Social Investment Management Programme (BOSIMP), to identify and screen an additional 2, 000 vulnerable youths for assistance.
In a related development, the governor has commenced the construction of 600 two-bedroom semi-detached houses for teachers and health workers across five locations.

The project will see 100 houses built in Biu, Magumeri, Hawul, and Gubio, while 200 units will be allocated to the Borno State University Teaching Hospital for healthcare workers.
Each of the housing estates, he said will include essential infrastructure such as clinics, road networks, drainage systems, and sporting facilities.
Gov. Zulum reiterated his administration’s commitment to improving the welfare of teachers, and healthcare workers, emphasizing that the initiative aligns with his broader vision for enhanced public service delivery, and social development in Borno State.
