Borno State Governor, Babagana Zulum, has commiserated with residents of Malam Fatori in Abadam Local Government Area following a recent attack by Boko Haram insurgents that claimed nine lives and left four others injured.

The governor’s condolence message was delivered by the Commissioner for Local Government and Emirate Affairs, Sugun Mele, who led a government delegation to the community.
“We are here at the instance of Governor Babagana Zulum, who is out of the country on an official assignment, to condole with the people of Malam Fatori over the unfortunate attack,” Mai Mele told the gathering.

He assured the residents that the state government and the military would do everything possible to secure the town.
Describing Malam Fatori Town as strategically important, the commissioner urged residents to remain resilient and prayerful to prevent future attacks.

He also praised the military for their gallantry and disclosed plans to fortify the town’s security.

“Excavators have been deployed to dig trenches around the local government headquarters to strengthen security and prevent further incursions by Boko Haram and ISWAP fighters,” he said.

Mai Mele further warned the residents against collaborating with insurgents, threatening divine curses on anyone found aiding the attackers.

During the visit, the state government presented financial assistance of N500,000 to each bereaved family and N250,000 to each of the four people currently receiving medical treatment.

Meanwhile, the state Commissioner for Information and Internal Security, Prof. Usman Tar, has announced plans to resettle an additional 3,000 households in Malam Fatori, bringing the total number of resettled families to 5,000.

The commissioner said that already, the state government has resettled 2,000 households, and plans to resettle another 3,000 households soon.

“Government is committed to providing all necessary security and resources to ensure the stability of the community,” he said.

He urged residents to remain vigilant and to promptly report suspicious activities to security agencies.
