Kano State Governor, Abba Yusuf, has approved a minor cabinet reshuffle and the redeployment of senior staff in the state civil service as part of what his administration described as efforts to strengthen governance and improve service delivery.

In a statement issued on Monday by his spokesperson, Sanusi Dawakin-Tofa, Gov. Yusuf directed immediate changes affecting top officials in key ministries.

According to the directive, the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Haruna Dederi, has been moved to head the Ministry of Transport.

The Solicitor General and Permanent Secretary, Mustapha Muhammad, was also redeployed to serve as the permanent secretary in the Ministry of Environment.

Commissioner of humanitarian affairs, who had been overseeing the Ministry of Transport in an acting capacity, is expected to return to his substantive role.

“All officials affected by the reassignments are to formally hand over the affairs of their offices to the most senior official in the ministry.

“The handing over and taking over exercise is to be completed immediately, with effect from Tuesday, September 23, 2025, before the close of business,” the statement read.

Gov. Yusuf, defending the shake-up, said it was designed to “maximise capacity, align responsibilities, and ensure government delivers effective results.

“We remain committed to accountability, efficiency, and purposeful leadership that meets the expectations of our citizens,” the governor added, urging all appointees and civil servants to cooperate with the redeployed officials.

Meanwhile, the state government on Monday also announced the commencement of training for 380 youths recruited into the newly created Special Anti-Phone Snatching and VIP Protection Guards.

The initiative, targeted at curbing phone snatching, thuggery, and related crimes, is expected to train a total of 600 volunteers.

Officials said the first batch of recruits will undergo a two-week intensive training to equip them with “necessary skills to assist in safeguarding lives and property across the state.”

The move comes barely a week after Gov. Yusuf presented appointment letters to 4,315 former volunteer teachers who were absorbed into permanent and pensionable teaching service.

The governor’s office said the recruitment was in continuation of earlier approvals for 5,500 teachers in 2023, 5,632 in 2024, and 4,000 in May 2025.
