Kano State Governor, Abba Yusuf, has approved a new round of appointments and promotions affecting key government institutions, as part of efforts to strengthen public service delivery in the state.
The appointments were announced in a statement issued on Monday by the Governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Bature.
According to the statement, Abubakar Matawalle has been appointed as the acting director-general of the Kano State Pilgrims Welfare Board.
Matawalle, a seasoned administrator, previously served as the executive secretary of the Pilgrims Welfare Board and as permanent secretary, establishment, before retiring from the Kano State civil service.
He rose through the ranks from assistant secretary to permanent secretary and retired in 2014 after eight years at that level.
The statement noted that Matawalle is widely regarded for his experience in public administration and his track record in managing Hajj operations over the years.
In another development, Yusuf Mukhtar has been promoted to the rank of permanent secretary, while Rahama Malam was appointed as provost of the Kano State Anti-Corruption Institute.

Rahama is a legal practitioner with over seven years’ experience spanning litigation, corporate law, electricity law, regulatory compliance, and dispute resolution.
She has served in both private and public institutions, including the Kano Electricity Distribution Company (KEDCO), and was head of the School of Law at the Maryam Abacha American University of Nigeria (MAAUN).
She holds a Master of Laws (LLM) in international law and is credited with pioneering initiatives such as the establishment of a law clinic and student bar association.
Also promoted is veteran Kannywood actress Aina’u Ade, who moved from special assistant to senior special assistant on Kannywood Affairs, in recognition of what the government described as her outstanding performance in her previous role.
Gov. Yusuf urged the appointees and promoted to justify the confidence reposed in them by discharging their duties with diligence, transparency, and loyalty to the administration’s Kano First Agenda.
All the appointments and promotions take immediate effect, Bature noted in the statement.
