Governor Abba Yusuf of Kano State is in Cyrus and has commenced the process of obtaining the certificates of students from the state on scholarship who graduated from the Near East University in that country since 2016.

A statement issued on Monday by the governor’s spokesperson, Sanusi Bature, said the decisive step by the governor is to address the prolonged challenge faced by the students in accessing their academic certificates throughout the administrationof former Governor Abdullahi Ganduje.

Gov. Yusuf’s discussion with the school’s management the statement stated, centred on the overdue release of the withheld certificates as many of the affected students, particularly those that medicine and nursing have been unable to advance in their careers due to the non-payment of their tuition fees by the immediate past administration.

The statement described the situation as a major setback, not only for the affected students but also for the state, which has been deprived of skilled professionals in critical sectors, particularly in the provision of healthcare services.

While expressing the governor’s commitment to prioritising education and the welfare of citizens of the state, the governor however expressed optimism following fruitful discussions with the university’s management aimed at settling the liabilities and facilitating the release of the certificates.

“This situation has been a significant setback for our children, hindering their dreams and aspirations, and it has also affected our state which is in dire need of their expertise.

“One cannot imagine that as governor, Ganduje cannot pay for the tuition of these medical students who very much need for immediate employment with the Kano State Government. It is a shame on him.

“We remain committed to prioritizing education and the welfare of our people as a foundation for sustainable growth,” the governor remarked.

Gov. Yusuf’s intervention underscores his administration’s resolve to address systemic challenges in the education sector, his media adviser stated, adding that “the anticipated resolution of this issue is expected to enable the graduates to fulfill their potentials and make meaningful contributions to Kano State’s development.

“This effort signals a new chapter of hope for the affected graduates and reaffirms the government’s commitment to building a brighter future for its citizens.”
