Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has accused opposition parties of orchestrating political unrest and fueling instability in Kano, vowing to take decisive action against those responsible. Speaking during a briefing after the State Executive Council meeting on Wednesday, the governor condemned the resurgence of thuggery and pledged to restore peace and order in the metropolis.
The governor’s remarks come on the heels of a violent clash between rival political gangs, which left several individuals injured and heightened tensions in the city. According to a statement by his spokesperson, Sanusi Bature, intelligence reports from Tuesday’s security council meeting implicated opposition actors in sponsoring these acts of violence.
Governor Yusuf alleged that these elements are deliberately provoking unrest to disrupt the state’s progress and stability. He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to confronting these challenges head-on, stressing that any attempt to undermine Kano’s peace would be met with swift and forceful responses.
To curb the growing threat of political thuggery and drug abuse, the governor announced plans to reopen the Kiru Reformatory Centre, a facility designed to rehabilitate offenders and address substance abuse. He further assured the public that his administration would intensify collaboration with security agencies to dismantle criminal networks and maintain order in the state.

He revealed that a series of initiatives would soon be rolled out to equip young people with skills and opportunities, reducing unemployment and fostering self-reliance among the youth.
The governor also shared plans to inaugurate a newly constituted Shura Consultative Council comprising 46 members, including respected Islamic scholars, academics, and other stakeholders. This council is expected to play a pivotal role in advising the government on critical issues affecting the state.
