Governor of Gombe State, Inuwa Yahaya has warned the 2025 Hajj pilgrims from the state to avoid actions that could dent the country’s image.

He emphasised the importance of avoiding any action that could harm the reputation of Nigeria.

The governor gave the warning during a farewell event for the intending pilgrims held on Sunday in Gombe.

Gov, Yahaya, who was represented by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Prof. Ibrahim Njodi, urged the pilgrims to steer clear of dishonest individuals who may try to involve them in drug-related activities.

The governor reminded the pilgrims that Saudi Arabia has very strict laws regarding drugs, including the death penalty for those caught with illegal substances.

He stressed that anyone caught in such situations would face serious consequences.

Also, the governor advised the pilgrims to be careful not to unknowingly get involved in illegal trading and to always be mindful of their actions.

The governor encouraged them to be proud representatives of their state and country, saying “do not engage in any illegal activities that could tarnish your image and that of our state and nation.”

Gov. Yahaya urged the pilgrims to follow the law and respect local authorities to avoid any trouble. He made it clear that those who act out of line would face punishment.

The governor also called on the officials from the state’s Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board to be dedicated and attentive to the needs of the pilgrims in their care.

Executive Secretary of the state Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board, Mr. Saadu Hassan, stated that a total of 957 pilgrims will be traveling for the Hajj.

The first group of 512 pilgrims is scheduled to leave on Monday, followed by a final group of 445 on Tuesday.

The Emir of Dukku, Alhaji Haruna Rashid II, who heads the pilgrims’ board, praised Gov. Yahaya for his support, which has made the Hajj process smooth for the state’s pilgrims.
