Gombe State Governor, Alhaji Muhammadu Yahaya, has approved the re-accreditation of all government technical colleges in the state.

The move is aimed at revitalizing technical education and fostering entrepreneurship among the state’s growing youth population.

Commissioner for Education, Prof. Aishatu Maigari, disclosed this during a courtesy visit by the Director General and Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Building and Road Research Institute (NBRRI), Prof. Samson Duna, on Tuesday.

Maigari noted that the governor’s directive is part of the broader efforts to reposition the colleges as hubs of innovation and creativity, equipping young people with practical skills that can drive economic growth.

She explained that the re-accreditation aligns with the state’s ongoing implementation of the World Bank-supported Innovation Development and Effectiveness in the Acquisition of Skills (IDEAS) project.

The initiative focuses on enhancing skills development in both formal and non-formal education sectors across the state.

“Skills development and school safety are key priorities for the ministry,” Prof. Maigari said, while appealing to NBRRI for support in improving school infrastructure, emergency preparedness, and teacher training.

In his remarks, Prof. Duna commended the Gombe State Government for maintaining high standards and ensuring quality delivery in its infrastructure projects, which he said mirrors the core values of the NBRRI.

He emphasized the institute’s commitment to using indigenous, cost-effective technologies and maintaining zero tolerance for substandard construction practices.

The NBRRI chief praised the commissioner’s dedication to educational innovation and pledged the institute’s support in advancing infrastructure development in the state’s education sector.
