Governor Bassey Otu of Cross River State has ordered the reversal of the controversial auction of assets belonging to the University of Cross River State by the governing council of the institution.
This was disclosed by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Asset Management and Recovery, Gilbert Agbor.
Agbor said Gov. Otu has demanded an urgent review of the auction.
Also, the governor has requested a full list of all the auctioned assets, official approvals, and the university’s governing council resolutions related to the sale of the assets within seven days.
Gov. Otu further requested copies of the auction guidelines, and any public advertisements regarding the auction, a list of individuals and entities that acquired the assets, and proof of payment, including account details, total proceeds, and how the funds were managed.

The petitioners alleged that the governing council secretly sold the assets to themselves, thus violating procurement laws.
The controversial auction allegedly took place between May and August 2024, and the assets sold include, eight industrial generators—one of which was a 500KVA generator installed in 2015.
Others are vehicles, including some donated by the administration of former Governor Ben Ayade.
