The Governor of Cross River State, Bassey Otu has approved the constitution of the state council on climate change and the state green economy commission.
A statement issued on Tuesday by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Gill Nsa, said the two bodies were constituted in line with the Climate Change and Green Economy Commission Law of the state.
While the governor is the chairman of the council on climate change, the state Commissioner for Special Duties and Intergovernmental Relations, Oden Ewa is the chairman/chief executive of the green economy council.

The statement said the two bodies are statutory and are expected to provide strategic direction, ensure policy implementation and coordinate inter-sectoral collaboration to achieve the state climate change goals and economic aspirations among other responsibilities.
“The two bodies are to strengthen collaborations with development partners and stakeholders on climate change mitigation, adaptation and green economic growth among other assigned duties,” the statement added.
The two councils have 9 members each.
