Abia State Governor, Alex Otti has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to protecting lives and property of residents of the state.

Special Adviser to the governor on Security Matters, Navy Commodore MacDonald Ubah (rtd), stated this in an interview, after the monthly State Security Council meeting held on Thursday.

He described the security meeting as part of the state government’s proactive approach to maintain law and order in the state.

“This is a monthly meeting that the governor of Abia State normally holds. It is in furtherance of all the security measures that have so far been emplaced that is securing Abia State as it is,” Ubah noted.

This is contained in a statement issued by the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Ukoha Njoku Ukoha.

Answering question on the recent killing of a businessman from Arochukwu on his way back to the state, Ubah assured that security agencies are actively investigating the matter.

“All hands are on deck to unravel that incident, and investigations are ongoing. Whenever we have results, it will be made public”, he stated.

Also speaking, the state Commissioner of Police, Mohammed Isa, emphasized that the purpose of the meeting was to appraise the security situation in the state.

He described the security situation of Abia as peaceful, following strategic operations by the various security agencies in the state to maintain law, and order as well as secure lives and property of residents.

He noted that one of the meetings held in November last year led to special security operations across Aba, Umuahia, and other local government areas of the state, which ensured a peaceful festive season.

“As you witnessed, with the special operations that we carried out both in Aba, Umuahia, and all area councils, we had relative peace. People came in for Christmas and New Year celebrations, and there was relative peace,” Isa stated.

The police commissioner assured that the state police command would continue to collaborate with other sister security agencies in the state to protect the lives and property of residents.

He urged residents to remain vigilant, and cooperate with security agencies, noting that the command remains steadfast in its efforts to ensure peace and security across the state.
