Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo has visited Kano State to express his condolences, promising justice regarding the brutal murder of 16 hunters in Udune, located in the Uromi Local Government Area of Edo State.
He condemned the attack, describing it as barbaric and unacceptable.
The visit occurred on March 31, 2025, during which he met with Governor Abba Yusuf of Kano State to share his sympathies.
Gov. Okpebholo expressed his deep sorrow over the incident, highlighting the support he received from the Hausa community during his electioneering campaign.
“I was deeply saddened by this unfortunate incident. Upon my arrival, I met with my Hausa brothers, who had generously supported me during my election campaign,” he said.
The governor revealed that President Bola Tinubu had instructed the police and other security agencies to pursue the attackers and ensure they are brought to justice.
“We have implemented robust security measures to hold all those involved accountable. Security agencies have already launched investigations to bring the culprits to justice,” he added.
Gov. Okpebholo disclosed that 14 suspects have already been arrested and emphasized the importance of accountability, stating that robust security measures have been implemented to hold those responsible accountable for their actions.
Describing the attack as disturbing, he underscored Nigeria’s commitment to the sanctity of human life, noting that such cowardly acts contradict fundamental societal values rooted in both Islamic and Christian teachings.

“This cowardly act contradicts the fundamental principles of our society, which are deeply rooted in both Islamic and Christian teachings.
“So far, 14 suspects have been arrested in connection with the killings. As Kano remains dear to my heart, we will continue to uphold the value of being our brother’s keeper,” he said.
Governor Yusuf thanked the visiting Gov. Okpebholo for his prompt response and affirmed the need for strong security measures to prevent any retaliation.
He also called for the arrested individuals to be publicly paraded to provide some relief to the victims’ families and ensure justice, advocating for fair compensation for the families affected by the tragedy.
“We have implemented strong security measures to prevent any reprisal attacks.
“We also urge that those arrested be publicly paraded to bring relief to the victims’ families and to ensure accountability.
“I call on Gov. Okpebholo to ensure that the families of the victims receive fair compensation for their loss” he said.
Both governors commended President Tinubu for his swift action and commitment to justice in light of the heinous crime.
