Panic broke out at the Delta State Government House in Asaba on Thursday when a cow meant for slaughter broke loose and injured several individuals, including a cook attached to the office of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori.
The incident reportedly occurred within the premises as preparations were underway to barbecue the cow.
Sources said the animal broke free while being led to slaughter by local butchers and charged at nearby individuals in a frenzy.
One of the victims, a man in his 30s who attempted to subdue the animal, was severely injured after being knocked down.
He sustained deep wounds on his thighs and was initially taken to the Government House Clinic for emergency care.
Due to the severity of his injuries, he was later transferred to a more advanced medical facility where he is currently battling for his life.

Another victim, identified simply as Peter, a cook in the Government House, also sustained injuries but his condition was described as stable.
A source within the Government House disclosed that the first two butchers called to slaughter the cow were unable to handle it and fled the scene.
The critically injured victim was reportedly the second person called to take over the task.
The situation has raised concerns about safety protocols during animal handling within the premises.
Authorities are yet to issue an official statement on the incident.
