Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, is seeking the nod of the state House of Assembly to establish the Delta State College of Health Technology, Ovrode in Isoko North Local Government Area of the state.
In a letter sent to the Delta State House of Assembly and read at plenary by the Speaker, Emomotimi Guwor, Gov. Oborevwori underscored the necessity of the proposed institution, while pointing to Nigeria’s high under-five mortality rate due to common diseases like malaria, pneumonia, diarrhea, and meningitis.
The proposed college of health technology would focus on training healthcare professionals to support the state’s health sector with vital auxiliary services.

The move also aims to address critical healthcare challenges in the state and aligns with federal government goals to reduce child mortality and improve human capital development, making Delta State a key contributor in addressing national health challenges.
House Majority Leader, Emeka Nwobi, moved the motion to receive the governor’s proposal, and was seconded by the Minority Leader, Edafe Emakpor, with the bill’s first reading set for November 12.
Additionally, the House reviewed a 2023 audit report of local government finances, presented by James Augoye, calling for improved internal revenue generation strategies and adherence to project funding guidelines by local.councils in the state .
The recommendations were unanimously adopted, with Speaker Guwor applauding the committee’s work.
