The traditional ruler of Irri Clan in Isoko South Local Government Area of Delta State, Simon Odhomo (Igbogidi 1), has been presented his staff of office by the Governor of Delta State, Sheriff Oborevwori.
Speaking at the occasion, the Deputy Governor of the state, Monday Onyeme, who represented the state governor said government has great respect for the traditional institution because royal fathers are not only the custodian of the custom and tradition of the people, but also the only unsevered link with society’s past.
He added that “it is the realization of this that informed our avowed commitment to the enhancement of the status of the traditional institution in the state. Since the inception of this administration, government has not relented in its efforts to give the institution all the honour it rightly deserves.”
Gov. Oborevwori admonished the new Irri monarch to always consult his people before taking major decisions that affect the community, adding that the interest of the community should inform his decisions at all times.
The governor called on the people of Irri to accord their new traditional ruler, the respect and honour befitting his status.
Chairman of the Isoko South Local Government Council, Friday Warri said that the event is a mark by the state government of restoring the traditional institution to its pride of place.

He noted that the occasion marks a new dawn in the history of Irri people, pointing out that the monarch’s reign will mark a period of peace and progress.
A representative of Irri Clan, Chief Adonis Ubuwere appreciated the Gov. Oborevwori for the approval and recognition of their traditional ruler.
The community requested the state government’s intervention in the completion and commissioning of the Technical College, Irri, completion of the Otahe link road and other projects that will impact positively on the lives of the people.
The high point of the ceremony was the formal presentation of the staff of office to Odhomo, by the deputy governor.
Present at the occasion were traditional rulers from neighbouring Isoko communities, delegations from the 14 Irri villages, captains of industry, clergymen, political bigwigs and community leaders from and outside Isoko land amongst others
