The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Delta State has dismissed rumours suggesting that Governor Sheriff Oborevwori is planning to defect to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
In a statement on Monday, signed by Chief Solomon Arenyeka the state PDP chairman, the party described the speculation as unfounded and a calculated attempt by political adversaries to destabilize the governor’s administration.
The rumours, which gained traction following Gov. Oborevwori’s recent open praise and support for President Bola Tinubu and a New Year visit by opposition party governors to his Lagos residence, have fueled widespread speculation about his political allegiance.
Critics claim these actions signal a possible shift in loyalty, but the PDP has categorically debunked such claims.

The statement reads: “This is nothing but baseless propaganda orchestrated by political desperados and mischief-makers. The governor’s commendation of President Tinubu’s leadership is in no way an indication of defection. It reflects his statesmanship and commitment to fostering national unity, not partisanship.”
The PDP described the originators of the rumours as “jobless political hirelings” and “failed agents of destabilization,” accusing them of attempting to tarnish both the governor’s reputation and the integrity of the PDP.
The party maintained that Gov. Oborevwori remains steadfast in his commitment to the PDP and his dedication to delivering good governance through his more agenda, which prioritizes social infrastructure and human capital development.
“This vile and wicked propaganda is the work of a notorious serial blackmailer, someone who thrives on lies and deceit as a way of life,” the statement added.
The PDP urged the public to disregard the speculation, labeling it a desperate move by faceless individuals to sow discord.
The party also reaffirmed its confidence in the governor’s ability to fulfill his mandate and enhance the lives of Delta State residents.
“Governor Oborevwori remains deeply committed to the PDP and the promises he made to the people of Delta State,” the statement said, adding that “no amount of propaganda or political blackmail will distract him from his mission of ensuring a better Delta for all.”
The PDP called on party members and the general public to stand firm in their support for Gov. Oborevwori’s administration, stressing that his engagements with opposition leaders should be viewed as part of his efforts to promote collaboration and unity, not a shift in party loyalty.
The party further urged political actors to focus on constructive dialogue rather than divisive propaganda, assuring Delta State residents that the governor remains resolutely aligned with the values and vision of the PDP.
