The Delta State Commissioner for Information, Mr. Charles Aniagwu, has declared that the state government didn’t borrow to fund the over ₦275 billion worth of projects, the State Executive Council recently approved for execution.
He disclosed this during a press briefing in Asaba on Wednesday.
Aniagwu emphasized that the Governor Sheriff Oborevwori administration, remains committed to sustainable development and fiscal responsibility.
He highlighted that one of the key policies ensuring the smooth execution of these projects is the unprecedented 40 percent advance payment for all awarded contracts in the three senatorial districts of the state.
“For the first time in the history of any government in the federation, the Delta State Roads and Infrastructure Regulatory Council has ensured a 40 percent mobilization payment for contractors.
“This policy guarantees prompt mobilization and timely project execution, preventing unnecessary delays that often hinder infrastructural development,” Aniagwu stated.

The commissioner reassured Deltans that the state remains financially stable, reiterating that the decision to execute projects worth over ₦275 billion without taking any loans is proof of sound economic management.
“When my colleagues and I provided a briefing on the state of our finances, we made it clear that Delta remains financially solid. The fact that we are undertaking these massive projects without borrowing is a testament to that stability,” he added.
Aniagwu also disclosed that the administration had successfully saved over ₦4.5 billion from various contracts by scrutinizing profit margins and contract costs.
“By carefully re-evaluating financial parameters, we have ensured that public funds are utilized efficiently, preventing wasteful expenditures while maximizing project impact,” he said.
Also, the commissioner revealed the state government’s commitment to transparency and accountability, noting the establishment of a dedicated whistleblowing line for reporting financial mismanagement, contract violations, and other forms of misconduct.
He urged citizens to actively participate in governance by providing credible information, assuring that all reports will be treated with confidentiality and addressed appropriately to uphold the administration’s standards of integrity and good governance.
The commissioner stressed that the Oborevwori administration, is committed to fulfilling its promises under the MORE agenda, which prioritizes infrastructural development, economic growth, and social welfare.
He added that contractors would begin mobilizing soon and assured that payments would be made promptly as milestones are achieved.
