Governor Francis Nwifuru of Ebonyi State has suspended the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters, Uchenna Igwe over alleged gross misconduct.
The governor made the disclosure during a press conference held at the New Government House, Abakaliki.
Gov. Nwifuru said the commissioner was suspended due to his inability to addressing the demands made by civil servants at the local government level for the payment of their gratuities as at when due.

He explained that his administration had since implemented the autonomy granted to local governments, adding that the allocation from federation account go straight into the local government councils’ account.
Gov. Nwifuru, who said he is unaware of the alleged charge of payment of N2,100 for the auditing of workers, assured that an investigation will be carried out as to ensure that drastic measures are taken against anyone found culpable.
