Governor Francis Nwifuru of Ebonyi State has commended the World Bank for initiating people-oriented projects that directly impact the lives of citizens, assuring the institution of his administration’s commitment to sustaining its healthcare intervention programme in the state.
The governor gave the assurance at his office in Abakaliki while receiving the World Bank Mission Assessment Team on impact projects during a courtesy visit.
In a statement signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Monday Uzor, Gov. Nwifuru described the project as one of the most visible and beneficial interventions the state has experienced.
“This is the first time the World Bank is doing a project we are celebrating, not only benefitting,” the Governor said.
He told the delegation, led by Mr. Onoriode Ezire, that his administration remains committed to programmes that align with the People’s Charter of Needs Agenda.

“If we see this type of project again from the World Bank, we will join. The impact of this project is being seen. It is in line with what our people want,” he stated.
Highlighting strides in the health sector, Gov. Nwifuru noted that Ebonyi State is now among states with functional health facilities due to deliberate reforms undertaken by his administration.
“We have built staff quarters, undertaken landscaping and created a conducive environment for our people. Our MRI machines, CT scan and other equipment are fully functional,” he said.
He reiterated the state government’s resolve to sustain and expand the gains of the programme.
“We are not only going to complement your efforts, we are going to exceed your expectations. We have seen the benefit, we have seen the need for the project, and we will sustain it,” the governor assured.
Earlier, the World Bank Team Lead, Mr. Onoriode Ezire, commended Gov. Nwifuru for his achievements in healthcare service delivery.
“We want to extend our appreciation to you. Ebonyi State is like a home to me. We are happy to be visiting the state,” he said.
He applauded the government for installing CT scan and MRI machines, recruiting 328 health workers, and ensuring the smooth operation of the healthcare system.
“We are here to see how this programme can be sustained as it will be signed out this year, and also to explore how we can tell the success story of the Impact Programme,” Ezire added.
The team further praised the governor for insisting on excellence in medical service delivery to the people of Ebonyi State.
