Ebonyi State Governor, Francis Nwifuru has accused some criminal elements from the community for being responsible in the recent killings that occured at Amegu Nkalaha community in the lshielu Local Government Area of the state.
The governor disclosed that the preliminary investigation by the security agencies showed the attack was not carried out by Fulani herdsmen as alleged.
During the incident, scores were killed, many fled and property worth millions of naira destroyed.
Meanwhile, Gov. Nwifuru has approved the appointment of Prof. Michael Awoke as the new vice chancellor of the Ebonyi State University (EBSU).
This followed the recommendations of the governing council of the university.

Awoke is a professor of agricultural economics and former deputy vice chancellor (academic) of the university.
Also appointed are Prof. Ike Elechi Ogba as deputy vice chancellor (academic), and Prof. Michael Ajanwachukwu as deputy vice chancellor, (administration).
Others are Mrs. Ugochinyere Mba Uka, as registrar, Mrs. Roseline Nwuzor, as bursar and Mrs. Victoria Nwali, as librarian.
The governor who announced the appointments, shortly after a church service at the Government House Chapel, said the newly appointed principal officers of the university will be sworn- in on February 11, 2025.
This is contained in a statement issued on Sunday, by the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Dr. Monday Uzor and made available to journalists in Abakaliki.
The governor also recalled four commissioners and the Executive Secretary of the Ebonyi State Primary HealthCare Development Agency, who were suspended last November.
They are the Commissioners for Health, Dr. Moses Ekuma; Water Resources, Chinedum Nkah; Housing, Francis Ori and Local Government, Uchenna Igwe.
He warned contractors handling government projects, to ensure the speedy execution of such projects or face the wrath of the state government.
