Ebonyi State Governor, Francis Nwifuru, has urged the newly appointed General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the 82 Division of the Nigerian Army to intensify efforts to end the persistent sit-at-home orders enforced by non-state actors in the South-East region every Monday.
The governor also called on security agencies to implement a reward system to boost the morale of officers and personnel, enhancing their commitment to restoring law and order.
In a statement released by his Chief Press Secretary, Dr. Monday Uzor, over the weekend, Governor Nwifuru emphasized his support for security operations when Major-General Oluyemi Olatoye, the new GOC of the 82 Division, paid him a courtesy visit at the Government House Centenary City, Abakaliki.
“I am confident that you are well aware of the security challenges in the South-East. God has been with us, alongside the dedicated military officers deployed to our state. I assure you of our continued support and recognize the dedication of officers serving here. We have consistently shown appreciation by offering cash incentives and even car gifts to outstanding personnel,” Nwifuru stated.

In response, Major-General Olatoye praised Governor Nwifuru for his unwavering support of military operations in the region and pledged to collaborate with the state government to ensure stability and security.
“I assumed command of the 82 Division on January 27, 2025. This visit is to gain deeper insights into the operational landscape, understand challenges, and strengthen inter-agency and inter-service cooperation. Your commitment to marshaling all security agencies for better outcomes is commendable. I also appreciate the incentives provided to our officers as a motivation to excel in their duties,” the GOC said.
The visit marks a significant step in fostering stronger ties between the military and the state government, as efforts continue to bring an end to the disruptive sit-at-home protests and enhance security across the region.
