Governor Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang has officially handed over a Certificate of Occupancy (C of O) to the Niger Delta Power Holding Company (NDPHC). The certificate covers a parcel of land designated for the construction of a 132/33KV transmission substation in Shendam, a project poised to transform the energy landscape of the state.
According to a statement by the Director of Press, Bere Gyang, the substation will extend electricity transmission from Lafia in Nasarawa State to Shendam, effectively powering Plateau’s Southern and Central Senatorial Districts. This initiative is expected to catalyze industrialization, boost commercial activities, and provide a long-term solution to the region’s power challenges.
Governor Mutfwang, during the presentation ceremony at NDPHC headquarters in Abuja, expressed optimism about the project’s transformative potential. He emphasized that the substation would resolve longstanding electricity deficits in the region while supporting the establishment of the African Development Bank’s Special Agro-Processing Zone. The governor highlighted how this development could attract significant private-sector investment to Plateau State, paving the way for economic growth and job creation.
Recognizing Plateau’s untapped potential for renewable energy, Governor Mutfwang urged NDPHC to prioritize the project. He also pointed to recent legislative advancements, including the Electricity Market Law and Energy Corporation Law, which position Plateau to generate and sell electricity, particularly from wind and solar energy, to neighboring states.

Engr. Jennifer Adighije, Managing Director/CEO of NDPHC, received the C of O with enthusiasm, noting Governor Mutfwang’s historic visit as the first by a state governor to her office since her appointment. She praised his visionary leadership and commitment to industrializing Plateau State.
“You are the first governor to visit us, and your zeal for transformation is truly inspiring,” Engr. Adighije remarked. “With NDPHC’s surplus generation capacity, partnering with you presents a pivotal opportunity. We are fully committed to delivering this project and supporting your vision for an industrialized Plateau.”
The collaboration between Plateau State and NDPHC marks a significant step toward addressing Nigeria’s power challenges and underscores the critical role of infrastructure development in driving industrialization. As the project gains momentum, it holds the promise of transforming Plateau into an economic powerhouse, making it a beacon of hope for sustainable development in Nigeria.
