Governor of Plateau State, Caleb Mutfwang, has lauded the emergence of Nentawe Yilwatda, as the national chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), describing his choice as a calculated step to consolidate internal unity ahead of the 2027 general elections.
In a statement issued on Saturday, Gov. Mutfwang said Yilwatda’s emergence through what he described as a consensus-driven process signals a deliberate effort by the ruling party to stabilise its internal structure amid growing political realignments.
He said the development followed a screening process and the coordinated emergence of members of the party’s National Working Committee, adding that it reflects what he termed “a managed attempt at inclusiveness” under the leadership of President Bola Tinubu.
“This development is a thoughtful demonstration of the party’s resolve to foster unity and inclusiveness as Nigeria prepares for the 2027 general elections,” Gov. Mutfwang said.
The governor commended party stakeholders for what he called political maturity, noting that the consensus arrangement helped to avoid internal fractures often associated with party conventions.
He further pointed to Yilwatda’s track record since his earlier adoption in June 2025, citing efforts at reconciling aggrieved members and restructuring the party through initiatives such as digital membership registration.
“Your tireless efforts in fostering reconciliation and reorganizing the party structure have already set a solid foundation for progress,” he added.
Also, Gov. Mutfwang attempted to justify the zoning of the party’s chairmanship position to the North Central region, thanking key national figures including Vice President Kashim Shettima, Senate President Godswill Akpabio, and Speaker Abbas Tajudeen for backing the decision.

According to him, the move underscores the political relevance of Plateau State and the broader North Central bloc within national power calculations.
He argued that Yilwatda’s background in ICT, digital systems, and electoral administration positions him to strengthen the party’s organisational capacity ahead of future elections.
On behalf of the state, the governor expressed confidence that the new chairman would steer the APC towards electoral success, while also praying for “wisdom and strength” as he assumes office.
