The Governor of Bauchi State, Bala Mohammed, has expressed shock over the death of Mr. Kani Ben, a cameraman with Channels Television, who died after sustaining injuries in a motor accident while on official assignment in the state.
Mr. Ben was part of a media team covering the commissioning of projects executed by the North-East Development Commission (NEDC), alongside the minister of state for regional development when the accident occurred.
He was rushed to the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital, where he later passed away in the early hours of Saturday despite efforts by medical personnel to save his life.
In a statement issued on Sunday, Gov. Mohammed described the incident as painful and heartbreaking, noting that the late cameraman died in active service while carrying out his professional responsibility of informing the public.

He commended Mr. Ben’s dedication, courage and commitment to duty, saying his death is a significant loss to the media industry and the nation at large.
The governor extended his condolences to the family of the deceased, the management and staff of Channels Television, the Nigeria Union of Journalists, as well as colleagues and members of the wider media community.
He assured journalists of the state government’s continued respect and support, acknowledging the risks they take daily in the course of their duties.
