In a significant step towards bolstering security and operational readiness, Taraba State Governor Agbu Kefas has launched a military drivers’ retraining course, praising the remarkable achievements of security agencies in reducing the state’s insecurity from a staggering 95% to single digits.
Speaking on Tuesday during the event, Governor Kefas, represented by Barrister Timothy Gebon Kataps, Secretary to the State Government, commended the Army and other security forces for creating an environment where “Tarabans can now sleep with both eyes closed.” This initiative is part of the governor’s vision to enhance security operations and readiness across the state.
Governor Kefas highlighted his administration’s commitment to empowering security agencies by distributing 110 new vehicles and refurbishing 89 service vehicles, which were recently returned to active duty. He called on participants to dedicate themselves fully to the training, assuring them of ongoing support from his administration.

Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, Commander of the 6 Brigade/Sector 3 Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS), emphasized the importance of the training, stating, “This retraining course is part of our ongoing commitment to safety and excellence. By equipping our drivers with these essential skills, we’re protecting lives and increasing operational efficiency.”
General Uwa extended gratitude to the Taraba State government for its unwavering support and highlighted that the partnership with the Federal Road Safety Corps Jalingo, which is co-hosting the two-week course, will be instrumental in promoting safe driving practices.
The Chief Instructor, Lieutenant Colonel Jamilu Lawal, outlined the course’s focus on critical driving skills, emphasizing training in all-weather driving, ethical conduct, and vehicle management in challenging terrains. With 60 participants drawn from various security units, the program is set to impact security operations across the state.
This retraining initiative by Gov. Kefas marks a vital investment in safety, cost savings, and the longevity of state-owned vehicles, setting a new standard in military and security collaboration.
