The ancient town of Ganye came alive on Saturday, as dignitaries from across Nigeria gathered to honour the Gangwari Ganye, Alhaji Umaru Adamu Sanda, on the occasion of his 25th anniversary on the throne.
The event marked a significant milestone for the traditional ruler, who ascended the throne on April 7, 2000, following his unanimous selection by kingmakers and official endorsement by the government.
He was elevated to a first-class status on December 4, 2004.
Speaking at the well-attended celebration, Governor Ahmadu Fintiri commended the monarch for his enduring commitment to peace, development, and cultural preservation throughout his reign.
“Your reign has been a beacon of stability and progress. You have been a father to all and a bridge-builder among diverse communities,” Gov. Fintiri said.
“Under your leadership, Ganye has witnessed significant strides in education, agriculture, traditional governance, and community development.”
Gov. Fintiri praised the Gangwari’s contributions to government initiatives, particularly in conflict resolution, youth empowerment, and the promotion of cultural values.
He described the relationship between the traditional institution and the state government as one founded on mutual respect and shared aspirations for societal progress.
He called on the youth to emulate the virtues of the monarch, including his integrity, humility, and dedication to service, urging the anniversary to serve as a reminder of the importance of unity and cooperation.
Reaffirming his administration’s commitment to the state’s development, the governor highlighted the recent upgrade of the College of Agriculture, Ganye, to the College of Agriculture, Science and Technology.
