The Adamawa State Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has seized 626 compressed blocks of suspected cannabis sativa, weighing 500.8 kilograms, at a checkpoint near the Numan Bridge.
The operation, carried out in collaboration with military personnel, targeted a high-profile suspect already on the agency’s watchlist. The intercepted illicit drugs were concealed in two vehicles—a tinted SUV and a Hilux truck—bearing what appeared to be fake presidential license plates.
According to the state commandant, Agboalu Femi Samson, the vehicles originated from Alagbaka, Akure, in Ondo State and were headed to Mubi Local Government Area of Adamawa State. Samson highlighted the agency’s proactive measures, including the establishment of a permanent checkpoint to curb the influx of drugs into the state.
“Our 24/7 operational teams have achieved significant milestones in intercepting illegal substances and apprehending offenders. This operation is a testament to the effectiveness of our strategy and the unwavering commitment of our officers,” Samson said.
The commandant also praised the robust partnership between the NDLEA and the Adamawa State Government, which has provided critical support for operations and public awareness campaigns on the dangers of drug abuse.

Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, who visited the NDLEA command to inspect the seized drugs, lauded the agency’s diligence and pledged the state government’s continued support in the fight against drug trafficking.
“We are determined to achieve a drug-free society in Adamawa State and Nigeria at large,” Fintiri declared. “This successful operation is proof that with commitment and collaboration, we can disrupt the activities of drug traffickers and protect our communities.”
The governor also urged individuals battling addiction to seek rehabilitation and embrace opportunities to realize their potential. “To the youth and all who may be struggling with drug use, it’s never too late to turn your life around. The state will continue to support initiatives aimed at empowering individuals to make better choices,” he added.
This major bust reinforces the NDLEA’s resolve to intensify its crackdown on drug cartels, particularly in Adamawa State, a region that has faced challenges with drug trafficking. Observers note that the success of this operation could serve as a deterrent to others engaged in illicit drug activities.
