Adamawa State Governor, Ahmadu Fintiri, has urged federal financial managers to adopt smarter and more innovative spending strategies amid Nigeria’s growing fiscal challenges.
Represented by the Deputy Governor, Kaletapwa Farauta, the governor gave the advice while addressing participants at the 2025 ministerial performance management retreat hosted by the Federal Ministry of Finance.
The retreat with the theme: “Strengthening performance management for fiscal stability,” was held at the Banquet Hall of the Government House, Yola.
Gov. Fintiri described the presence of officials from the ministry of finance as a valuable opportunity to engage with sub-national governance and experience Adamawa’s renowned hospitality.
He praised the importance of retreats as reflective platforms, enabling performance evaluation and strategic planning.
However, he warned of Nigeria’s “bleak” macroeconomic outlook and highlighted a widening gap between public spending demands and actual revenue inflows.
“This calls for innovative financial reengineering,” Gov. Fintiri said. “The burden lies squarely on your ministry as custodians of the public purse to continuously brainstorm and implement strategic solutions that will not only stabilize but strengthen our economic indicators.”

Also speaking at the retreat, Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, reaffirmed the ministry’s dedication to transparency and results-oriented governance.
He stressed the need for stronger institutional capacity and modernized practices to meet the demands of a dynamic fiscal environment.
