Akwa Ibom State Governor, Umo Eno, is set to fulfil his promise to reward outstanding athletes who won medals at the 2025 Akwa Ibom State Sports Festival and the 2025 National Youth Games (NYG).
The awards ceremony will be held on Tuesday, December 16, 2025, at the Banquet Hall, Government House, Uyo.
Commissioner for Sports, Paul Bassey, disclosed that the event is designed to celebrate athletes who represented the state with distinction during the 2025 sporting season.
The Ministry of Sports explained that medal winners from both the state sports festival and the National Youth Games will receive prizes in recognition of their exceptional performances, in line with the governor’s commitment to sports development and youth empowerment in Akwa Ibom State.

The ceremony is also expected to attract prominent figures in Nigerian sports, including former Green Eagles captain and 1980 Africa Cup of Nations winner, Chief Segun Odegbami (MON), who has confirmed his attendance.
Popularly known as “mathematical,” Odegbami will add colour to the event alongside other sports stakeholders and government officials.
He is also scheduled to deliver a motivational talk titled: “Sports and I,” aimed at inspiring young athletes to pursue excellence through sports.
The awards ceremony underscores the state government’s resolve to use sports as a platform for talent development, discipline, and youth engagement across Akwa Ibom State.
