Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has issued a stern warning against the illegal resale of Christmas Village kiosks above the government-approved price of N100,000. He has called on the public to report any individuals engaged in such sharp practices directly to him.
The governor also declared a ban on the display of diabolical masquerades and ritualistic performances during the Christmas Village festivities, emphasizing the importance of preserving the state’s cultural values and decency.
Speaking on Wednesday during the unveiling of newly acquired waste management equipment at Itam in Itu Local Government Area, Governor Eno revealed that he had received credible intelligence about individuals purchasing kiosks at the government rate of N100,000 and reselling them for as high as N300,000.
“If anyone demands N300,000 for a kiosk, please report them immediately. Pay only N100,000 and direct them to meet me if they have issues,” he stated firmly.
The governor also tasked the Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Mr. Charles Udoh, with rectifying the situation promptly.
“I am instructing the Honourable Commissioner to correct this immediately,” Eno added.
Governor Eno reiterated his administration’s commitment to upholding the state’s cultural values, urging local government leaders and stakeholders to ensure decency in the festivities.
“We want to see our foods and a decent display of our cultural values. We will not tolerate diabolical masquerades or promote rituals during this period,” he warned.
In line with Akwa Ibom’s reputation for clean streets and excellent hygiene, the governor unveiled advanced waste management equipment for the Akwa Ibom State Waste Management Agency. He urged local government chairpersons to collaborate with the agency to ensure efficient service delivery.
