Governor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom State has applauded the peaceful, disciplined, and progressive working relationship between councillors and their respective local government council chairmen across the state, describing it as a key driver of grassroots development.

The governor made this known, while speaking at a two-day capacity-building workshop for councillors with the theme: “Enhancing Legislative Effectiveness for Grassroots Development,” held at the Ibom-LED Centre, Uyo.

He commended the performances of the 31 local government chairmen in the state and lauded the councillors for their team spirit and seamless collaboration with their chairmen, noting that such harmony has translated into visible development at the grassroots.

“I specially thank you, the councillors, for your harmonious working relationship with your chairmen. The support you have given has contributed immensely to the impressive development we are witnessing today across all local government areas,” the governor said.

Drawing an analogy with governance at the state level, Gov. Eno noted that councillors play a role similar to that of the state House of Assembly to the executive, stressing that development thrives only where cooperation exists.

In a move to further motivate the councillors, the governor approved a review of their imprest, security vote, and constituency project allocation, emphasizing that their contributions deserve recognition and encouragement.

He also charged them to work closely with the ward personal assistants to ensure effective ward administration, peace, and proper grassroots management, while supporting the execution of small but impactful projects that directly improve the lives of the people.

Gov. Eno commended the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Mkpisong Frank Archibong, and the Chairman of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), Dr. Uwemedimo Udo, for their effective coordination of local government chairmen and councillors across the state.

He equally expressed appreciation to the General Manager of Ibom-LED, Mr. Ime Uwah, for successfully translating the government’s vision in repositioning the former E-Library on IBB Avenue.

Impressed by the transformation, the governor directed that the facility should also function as the school of hospitality management to train personnel for improved service delivery in the tourism sector.

The governor further directed that the centre should serve as a youth-friendly hub for Uyo Local Government Area, adding that the Commissioner for Science and Digital Economy, Dr. Frank Ekpenyong, should ensure the immediate provision of internet services in the facility.
